Laprin glances at our society
Dear Benjamin
You seem to have had a good year in sports. Well done. See, playing basketball the other night I took more than fifty years! Not that I was good, but I had fun. Now I wonder what Laprin tell you this year. Remember, our goal is to clarify what the reality is that the popular myth about our wonderful company. We can not change what happens, but you will be better able to make decisions informed if they are aware of this reality. To you, Laprin.
We talked about the transportation issue and noted the trend toward smaller, more vehicles low power consumption. I'm sure, Benjamin, you know This trend continues despite attempts by automakers to sell the virtues of cars new wholesale. However, may not be aware of another important trend in transportation because it is the highest in Europe. For example, in Paris and a number of other cities, You can go to one of the many parks, bike, insert a card and have a bike for the desired time and then return to another bicycle parks. Your card is charged when you return cycling. You are charged nothing if you have half an hour. You are then charged for the time you have, including the total cost of the bike if not returned. This system has a cycle hire been in operation for a year or two, but has become very popular for obvious reasons. It is considered to Melbourne and Sydney.
I hope that is adopted here. Do not you, Benjamin? It would reduce traffic congestion, save fuel, reduce pollution and give people physically healthier. I saw recently at the age there are plans to significantly increase the number of bike trails in the region of Melbourne. It's a good thing.
I hope not many people are misled by the vagaries of oil prices. The reality is that the new oil field has not been found before birth, while fuel demand for cars is growing rapidly, partly because many Chinese can now buy their first car. Most discussions of business, politics and media attention on the economics of supply and demand and to ignore the reality that the limited supply of oil scarce and difficult to remove because the material is easy and has been burned.
It is really ridiculous, Benjamin, that oil companies say the way they were able to extract oil from the Gulf of Mexico deep. It would, especially with the risk associated with hurricanes, they could get elsewhere at a lower risk.
What So true, DA. Airplanes are also in the news because of its contribution to emissions of emissions of greenhouse gases. There are protests here and in England plans to expand airports to meet growing airlines. It is really surprising that there is widespread concern over fuel supplies for aircraft. Why do you think is the case, da?
I wonder years, Laprin, due to my work on engines for gas turbine their rapid development. Turbofan engines in large airliners have been developed to operate on a very specific form of kerosene, which is oil refining. As the oil supply diminishes, a new fuel should be displayed after the engines were modified to take into account the different combustion characteristics. This requires hard work and time, however, there is little indication of what we do now. However, the production of the A380 and the Boeing Dreamliner is designed to meet demand growing for decades to come. This can not happen. It is absolutely incomprehensible that the apparently well-informed people can succeed so badly. However, it is incomprehensible that people love our Treasurer Peter Costello, may continue to drive economic growth when it deprives future generations of natural resources that sustain our life support system.
If true, DA. It has been much debated in the media in recent years on climate change.
It has become the flavor of the year there, Benjamin.
There are good reasons for this. The last IPCC report essentially confirmed the projections of the model by thousands of climatologists for many years about how the climate is warming rapidly. It's very interesting to see how many famous apt to be skeptical about the conclusions of people who have spent their entire careers learning about this complex subject.
Figure 1 – Radiation "Budget" of solar radiation incoming
I thought you might find this interesting figure, Benjamin. I have a lot of information because it provides insight into the combustion of fossil fuels that heat the atmosphere. Now back to what we discussed. Many people believe that these skeptics because they have neither the time nor the inclination to address the issue. I understand that Andrew Bolt has to be comments in the Herald in which he attempts to debunk global warming. I hope Benjamin, you know how to consider the absurdity of the case of Bolt.
We know it must be very difficult to learn which opposing views, you must believe. It is often necessary to consider the issue for you can decide what is more credible. In this case, we have tangible evidence that there are all the unusual weather phenomena happening around the world now. The floods, heat waves and forest fires affected Europe in recent weeks.
Sounds a bit like in the East Gippsland last year more or less.
And the United States. The Midwest is beaten by a very wild weather and flooding this time, while states in south-east and south-west are on the strip of the drought as bad as parts of Australia and Africa.
And do not forget the parts of Africa, India, Bangladesh, Siberia and parts of America South.
Fires in Greece were terrible, partly because the Greek authorities have not experienced to deal with them by the Australians and Californians. It is a common problem in very unexpected natural disasters due to climate change arise. There are so many unusual weather events occur, it is likely that climate change without resorting to what experts have to say. Interestingly, Benjamin, flora and fauna are quite clear by their behavior as their environment changes.
Yes, they are better informed than Bolt!
Not only the flora and fauna and people who appreciate what is happening. The Arctic sea ice tends to melt a bit in summer. Polar bears and seals to enjoy it – or who did it. It has melted in recent years due to warming, therefore, had less ice the bears to hunt seals. The observers were horrified to discover that many polar bears are drowning in hunting on the ice alone. While this is happening in the Arctic is quite surprising, the glacier behavior is probably more important especially in Greenland and West Antarctica. Sea level has risen considerably and the melting of glaciers will increase significantly more.
You will see many cities threatened by sea level during their lifetime.
I'm afraid, Benjamin. What happened in New Orleans was horrible, but there are many cities that are vulnerable to rising sea levels. London authorities are considering what to being is the Thames, particularly if the barrier should be raised. Thames Estuary 2100 project is responsible for proposing what should be done. I have not heard similar planning in Melbourne. Do you, DA?
Laprin Yes, it is not surprising that many suburbs are considered the bay and the coast as vulnerable. The Government and Council are committed to the use of energy for water desalination, deepening the harbor to larger ships can deliver more content and dig tunnels in order to reproduce more cars! However, they have a program for specialists to familiarize themselves with what might happen if measures can be proposed mitigation. But this is clearly a lower priority than promoting the business as usual.
You're sarcastic, DA. Do not have confidence in leadership?
No
Well said, DA. And rightly so. After all, calling people to cut their energy use to reduce their carbon emissions. They give the impression will stop climate catastrophe. This is absolutely rubbish. There's nothing Australians can do to stop climate change. The reduction dramatic growth of global emissions at best reduce climate change. But this requires large emitters, Americans and Chinese at their greatest and there are few signs yet. The Australians are doing their part will not help.
Hold on, Laprin. You seem to say that Benjamin is not nothing to gain Australians by cutting energy use.
Certainly not do that! All this will encourage people to make wise use of limited natural resources, particularly energy, is good, but people need to know the sound patterns. Leaders do not do that. They are waiting for insulting people to believe that Australians climate change may influence when big polluters like the U.S. and China have been reduced. But on other issues. I hope many people are concerned by the problem equine influenza, which has a huge impact on races in Australia and other countries.
It would be really surprised if the Melbourne Cup could not continue in the first Tuesday in November.
The point here, Benjamin, is that there is much talk of the benefits of globalization. We cheap products from China, a variety of foods throughout the tour and is very international people. It's good side. This does not mean, however, that this extension also applies to diseases and invasive species.
It is well known that the damage was caused by the introduction of rabbits in Australia. However, little has been learned from this lesson. I hope, Benjamin learn a lot from their lessons.
It has been known for centuries that plagues can occur at any time for reasons unknown. As you can take a cold character can cast a curse. There was a 'flu epidemic in 1918 that killed more people than the war had been completed. In spite of this knowledge, we are out of our way to make these natural calamities easier to spread very far! It is doubtful, however, if equine influenza, avian flu epidemics or other natural causes people to abandon globalization – then there is enough fuel for trucks, planes and boats! There is little we can do to stop this lush ecosystem devastation. We can, however, help people make better decisions in tough times that are emerging. Many Tasmanians are inhabitants on the continent, having their say lack of wisdom in building Gunn of a pulp mill at Bell Bay. They say that the disadvantages outweigh the advantages provided by large firms, which Gunn are concerned about the money they can do.
It will be interesting to see the impact that this power of the people did. There are about thirty years, the Tasmanian Government proposals to dam the Franklin River, proposing a hydroelectric scheme. The people stood up and said, "Neither the devastation of our desert for this purpose. His voice was so strong that eventually the Hawke government intervened and said that the Government of Tasmania You do not dam the Franklin River. I hope we can see more of the power of people in this world of today and tomorrow. I will comment more on this next year. Hopefully we've seen some movement more gradually driven by the power of the people with the help of the Internet. Government and business should be aware of the fact that civilization is very dependent on what is available in the ecosystem, Gaia. Have a happy birthday, Benjamin.
Thank Laprin. Do you know where I am, Benjamin, if you have any questions. I support a chat, while time. I'm finishing my book on this subject called, "What went wrong?" The misappropriation of civilization. "A recent project is http://users.bigpond.net.au/jaymz/download/Gaia_and_Us-Denis_Frith-jun07.doc
All the best for your birthday.
